HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The trade winds have been weakening today and will give way to minimal rainfall throughout the rest of this week. High pressure to the north of the island chain will also continue to diminish the chance for rain and will keep the state mostly dry.
Due to the weaker winds, cloud cover could build up during the day and clear overnight. This weekend, however, we are tracking an active weather pattern.
An upper-level low could move closer to Hawaii this weekend. It will increase instability and provide a better chance for rainfall.
The weather models are still evolving, however. The timeline for the arrival of the upper-level low will continue to change and shift throughout the week. Make sure to check back often with your First Alert Weather team for the latest details. The forecast currently calls for increased showers, some of them heavy.
In surf, wave heights will remain small throughout the first half of the week. However, a N/NE swell will arrive Wednesday into Thursday. We could see high surf advisories go into effect for east-facing shores.
